Art,games,and GTFO, a fascinating new kick-starter!

Posted on 04/24/2013 at 01:23 AM | Filed Under Blogs

It is wild to think back to my formative years in gaming, playing Super Mario World, ALTtP, the Kirby series, Castlevania etc, and then flash forward to all the social issues in gaming today. I'm all for silly ball-busting between friends while gaming, but to see how trolls will cruelly attack people verbally is disgusting.

To echo what some folks have already said, what happened to the notion of gaming for fun? To see someone regress into a post-apocalyptic-esque savage mentality while gaming is just beyond stupid; people who hide behind anonymity and expouse hateful remarks for no reason are wastes of carbon, pure and simple. I think it's an advantage retro gamers have in perspective; we remember when gaming was just that, enjoying a video game, and not an on-line, digital pissing contest.

By the way, loving the art man! I'll definitely drop by your DeviantArt page and leave a comment or two!

Reliving the Glory Days?

I definitely think it is no coincidence that Nintendo is harkening back to the SNES with these new announcements. As you said, the SNES era is for many (myself included - it is my favorite console of all time) the strongest point in Nintendo's history, both from a quality and quantity standpoint of their games. I think Nintendo is trying to re-present themselves to the gaming audience, which means ironically, turning to their brightest era from yesteryear for inspiration.

The era of the Wii has come and gone, and I think Nintendo is realizing that they cannot rest on that console's laurels to carry them forward. Perhaps they are listening to the fans (thankfully!) who have grown up with Nintendo and that site the SNES as their fondest time as a gamer. If Nintendo is going to drive forward they will need the support of the gaming community and the people who truly love the medium, not the soccer moms whose Wii is currently collecting dust with no plans of making another investment.  This isn't a dig at Nintendo or the Wii's "blue ocean" strategy, it's just being honest. I for one, am excited to see what will come, and whole-heartedly support their soul-searching through nostalgia.

Not going to lie, I marked out for your Kirby's Dream Course sequel comment! I have been waiting for that for nearly 20 years!

Gaming Plans and Dark Souls (I'm back)

LOVED Dragonborn - I was excited when I initially heard about it, and I absolutely loved exploring Solsteihm. All the quests, armor sets, environments, NPC's, and hell even the beautiful new music were all a blast to explore and discover. Now THAT's how good DLC is done!

Batman: Arkham Origins Announced

The metroid style take in Blackgate definitely sounds interesting, and sounds like one of those common sense ideas terms of access to new areas through Batman's technology arsenal. If they do that right, it will be very boss.

The choice to take the Arkham series away from Rocksteady has me a bit more than puzzled. Granted Rocksteady is either working on another project, gearing up for the Silver Age Batman game, or both, but I just hope that Arkham Origins isn't just a less refined and dynamic addition to the series. Even if WB Montreal are given the engine, Arkham Asylum and City are shining examples of the "God is in the details" approach to game design and world construction.

So apparently

ALttP is in my Top 3 of favorites of all time, so I am definitely stoked to see them do something in the same style, hopefully with some cool new mechanics. It's such a beloved title, I definitely respect Nintendo's having the balls to dive back into it. Really looking forward to new info on this!

Why Capcom Doesn't Do Anything With Mega Man

Posted on 04/17/2013 at 11:17 PM | Filed Under Blogs

It's a shame what has happened with some of Capcom's IPs that were truly remarkable, and have the potential to be so again. The innovation of platforming principles that the original Mega Man games, as well as X, pioneered leads me to believe that the series once again could be highly innovative, and have a very bright future.

The mega-blockbuster mentality is hurting this industry creatively (not in terms of indie games, but in terms of AAA titles) and financially. Look at what happened with RE: a title that embraced creativity and pioneered a new generation of survival horror - the REmake is still that damn good to this day! Flash-foward to today, and RE6 failed to live up to expectations because it took a watered-down, "everything to everyone approach."

At this point hell, give Mega Man to an indie team with a strong track record, and I guarantee it becomes enough of a success that Capcom regains interest.

Gaming Plans and Dark Souls (I'm back)

Definitely looking forward to the Dark Souls walkthrough; it's a game I'm looking forward to diving into myself, and "Let's Play"s are always good for getting a sense of the game before you get into it yourself.

Skyrim is effing immense!! Even though I am nearing the end of my playthrough as my assassin Wood Elf character that I created on release day, I have the itching suspicion I'll be starting a new character at some point. Skyrim is the type of game that you take a break from for awhile, and return to kind of rediscover everything, and I'm looking forward to that!

The Game You're Best At: Kirby's Dream Course

Posted on 04/10/2013 at 01:24 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Aaron!! Great to see you back my friend!

Thank you for the kind words! It was a ton of work and a lot of late nights, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. And Kirby's Dream Course is still my favorite game of all time. It is definitely a blast, especially the two-player mode. Nothing like getting knocked clear off the map because your opponent decided to turn into Tornado Kirby while you were in their path Laughing

You are the Doom aficionado, so I'm not surprised that you can definitely whoop some demon ass! I love finding out people's go to game; it's awesome to see someone's passion  for a game that never ceases to provide an incredible experience.

Looking forward to seeing you around here again bud!

Definitely hoping they do continue on with Retronauts - and I definitely agree with Joe; Pixlbit is a true gaming site with an awesome community. IGN is more or less the Perez Hilton of the gaming world.
