PUNK TUESDAY!

Posted on 05/07/2013 at 08:51 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Sneenlantern, don't make me hurt you!  Just kidding, but I love Neutral Milk Hotel.  Aeroplane Over the Sea is definitely one of my favorite albums.  I'm pysched that they are touring again. I was thinking about going to see them at a festival in Asheville, NC, but the cheap tickets sold out within hours.

I've never considered them punk though. More like pysch-folk, maybe?

I also like Lucero.  I saw them at a small club where I live many years ago.

I've never heard of the Welch Boys (and can't listen to them now), but I'll have to check them out.  I love punk influenced by irish folk, and I'm assuming that's what they are?

Eternal Darkness, "Spiritual Successor" to be crowdfunded starting tomorrow!

Posted on 05/05/2013 at 04:32 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I'm looking forward to it.  I'm pretty sure Eternal Darkness was the last game that I started again immediately after beating it.  And I didn't just beat it twice, but I played through it a third time also, once for each of the colors (or alignments, I think they were called).  I got it when it first came out and haven't played it since though, so I might have to break it back out before this new game comes out.

Confessional: I don't like zombies.

Posted on 05/04/2013 at 08:40 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I've never liked zombies themselves, but have always loved zombie-related things.  Yeah, I'm also kind of sick of how popular they are, but then again I always kind of hate when something I love gets taken over and driven into the ground by pop culture.

I like them for the social commentary they can bring.  I also like them because films with them (usually) forces the writer to have small groups of people and actually have them interact and build characterization.  That's my type of horror movie.  I love horror movies but am not a big action fan.

Zombie movies are kind of played out, but there's still lots of good and original ones out there.  The first 3 Romero movies were great.  I also really like when they try something different.  I enjoyed Fido,Zombies Anonymous, Deadgirl, Zombie Honeymoon, [rec], ...even zombie strippers, all for different reasons.

When it comes to video games, I think they are also overused.  But they can bring fun situations.  I love the idea of a fast-paced game that takes place in a mall where you can you into all the stores and make all kinds of weapons.  But without the use of zombies, I'm not sure how a game like Dead Rising could exist.  Sure, I guess you could fight terrorists in a mall or something, but it would have been a completely different type of game.

Anyways, that was a lot of typing, especially since I kind of agree with you.  But, as I've gotten older, I've started not really caring what pop culture does to the things I love.  I just ignore it and find the good stuff that still exists.

Playstation Store Update. Sale on HD Collections Tomorrow!

Thanks for the reply.  I went ahead and purchased all-stars to see what happens, and it allowed me to download both the PS3 and Vita version.  So I got Thieves in TIme also and it also let me get both versions. Great prices!  I just wish the descriptions on the PSN made it clearer that I was getting both versions for the price of one.  They almost lost the sale because of it!

Does anybody know if the PSN downloads of the PS3 versions of Playstation All-Stars and Sly Cooper-Thieves in Time come with the vita versions also?  I know the retail versions do, but I don't see anything on the PSN about it.  In the description of the game where it talks about cross-play, it vaguely says you MAY have to purchase them seperately.

They are both at a really good price now, but if they don't come with the Vita versions I'll just wait for the retail versions to come down a little more.

PUNK TUESDAY!

Good picks.  I'm a fan of all these bands, although I haven't listend to some in ages.  Bad Religion is an old favorite, but I don't think I've listened to their last few albums.  I still plan to at some point.

I love Minor Threat, and Ian Mackaye is probably the closest thing to a hero I have, just because he's been in so many influential and great bands. Did you happen to see another punk living legend, Iggy (along with the Stooges), play on the Colbert Report last night?  I'm not sure how I felt about the new song (it was the first time I've heard it), but the man still has a ton of energy.

Hate, Love, and Apathy: My Complicated Relationship With EA

Posted on 04/22/2013 at 09:53 AM | Filed Under Feature

Wow.  That old-school EA logo on the home page brings back some memories.  I loved EA back in the C64 days.  M.U.L.E and Archon were both published by EA.  The games would take forever to load, and everytime I'd start up either game I'd just have to stare at that logo for several minutes while it changed colors every now and then.

I'm not a fan of microtransactions and stuff like that, but they don't really bother me.  I just don't do them.  Personally, I believe the recent lawsuit against them is beyond stupid.  How can somebody sue a company because they release a similar game year after year?  Nobody is forcing them to buy it.  Does a car company get sued if their next model is similar to the year before?  I can understand someone's frustration that they are the only company that can use the NFL license for the games, but that's business.  I don't really see how that can be considered a monopoly in the real sense that that laws against monopolies are meant for. Others can still make football games. Anyways, I don't really give a crap about sports games, but things like that annoy me.

So apparently

I'm kind of annoyed by the announcement (not really), because despite being interested in quite a few 3DS games, I've managed to fight the temptation to buy one.  Once this game comes out I don't think I'll be able to fight it anymore.  Not only is ALTTP my favorite zelda game, but also one of my favorite games of all time.

Backloggers Anonymous Poll

I love Eternal Darkness, but I played through it 3 times back when it first came out, so while I voted for it in the last poll as a franchise I would like to see come back, I didn't vote for it here.

I had to vote for Alan Wake b/c I've always been curious about that game.

PSA: Nintendo Direct Tomorrow Morning

Posted on 04/17/2013 at 11:12 AM | Filed Under News

Well crap, that will probably be the game that convinces me to get a 3DS, the same way Persona 4 Golden was the game that made me cave and buy a vita.  And similarly to the vita, I then won't be able to stop myself from buying all the other 3DS games that have caught my interest but I was able to resist due to the fact that I had nothing to play them on.  Nintendo just came up with the perfect plan to take all my money.

Oh yeah, I'm excited about earthbound too.  I've actually never played it but have read and heard many great things about it.
