What Are You Buying On Black Friday?

Posted on 11/15/2017 at 04:33 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I'm looking to see what deals there will be on graphics cards, thinking of upgrading mine. Would like a 1070, but might have to settle for a 1060

How to Combat Stagnation in Long Running Series

I think Rise was on the right track to making the game you're describing, story aside. It was the survival elements and the extra puzzles that kept that game interesting for me. But I completely agree on the one before it.

Also I have an idea for the setting to From's next game: Either modern or 1950's era America overrun by the creatures from Bloodborne. Think that could be a cool twist on post-apocalyptic.

The Games of the SNES Classic Edition

I'm really happy I got the SNES Classic, but even happier I was able to snag a second for my cousin who grew up on this system. He normally only plays Starcraft 2 now, but he's having a blast going back and replaying Mario World, DKC, Mario RPG, FFVI and Zelda: ALttP while getting to try some he wanted to as a kid like Super Metroid. Personally, I think I'll try to give FFVI another go, see if I can get into it this time.

Also agree that replacing the rails sections with dogfights in SF2 feels like a mistake. Always preferred SF64's rail segments.

I Disagree

GTA IV also has a 98 on Metacritic so someone had to have liked it.

Game I love: I wouldn't maybe say love, but Metroid Prime: Federation Force was a pretty solid shooter

Game I hate: GTA IV

The Return Of The 360

I hated Nuts and Bolts' intro too, but if you give it time I think there's a good chance you like it since you seem to like Legos. It's basically trying out a bunch of crazy contraptions you make and encourages you to think outside the box when building them.

Death of Single Player

I'm not knocking the concept of single player games, I just think that we're going to see development of them change. Scale back a little in terms of cinematics and graphics while pushing in other areas. I think it'll be good, may force some innovation.

Death of Single Player

Here's the question though, how many of those made money? I know TEW2 didn't. Wolfenstein is a maybe. AC and Mario are huge brands so they will. And South Park and Divinity have lower production costs so they probably will. So while I doubt single player games are going anywhere, I do think we'll see a change in how they get made.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Review

Yeah, but the two also had fundamental gameplay differences, not just differences in pacing. I think TLOU is more my kind of gameplay while Uncharted is more of yours which gives us each our own bias towards one.

Death of Single Player

Congrats on the baby

Personally, I think we're going to see a difference in what kind of single player games get made. Last gen games like Mass Effect and Uncharted cost a ton, but they weren't made to profit off of units sold, they were made to push hardware. Hence why Bioware is struggling under EA while Naughty Dog is thriving under Sony. EA has no hardware to push, thus every single player game must be profitable. Ironically open world games were a decent single player fix since having a big area cost less than a ton of cutscenes and tight level design. Not to mention they were made to be sold on PS3/360/sometimes Wii U as well.

I think the single player games we will get will be more mid tier like Styx Shards of Darkness/Life is Strange or if AAA, have a much smaller focus on cutscenes and voice acting like Bloodborne. Which, honestly, I'm okay with.  Sony does a good job with cinematic games and have talented people making them and I'd rather have gameplay be the focus for most games.
