I see what you mean,Joe. However,I cannot always like something just because it's new or does something unexpected. Sure,maybe sometimes but not every time.
If I could enjoy everything that came my way that would be great but perhaps I'm simply not that open minded. If so it is my own detriment but I cannot help but to be who I am.

The Cannes fiasco was over a nazi joke I think. Either Lars claimed to be one or made some off colored remark about Hitler. I looked up a bit more about him and that incident is still fresh in the media.

You echoe my thoughts exactly,Matt. Lars maybe a good film-maker but I cannot appreciate his style or how he portrays the world. That doesn't mean the man is wrong but I feel as if I have the right to disagree with him and dislike him. (Though maybe irl he is very nice. Who knows?)

I'm sure certain devoted fans trashed the Karate Kid remake but truth be told I thought the overall premise and the characters were more fleshed out. Don't get me wrong, I love the original too but I was glad to see the remake actually had some thought and care put into it.
I just find "showing the dark" all the time to come off as pessimistic and pretentious. I actually was around for the first wave of "shock films",aka movies that delibertely had hopeless and cynical premises. Needless to say, as an art student at the time I got burnt out on that kind of stuff rather quickly. I'm not saying it's "wrong" but it's just not an approach that jives with me. (And I do not consider it "honest" because it's only showing the bad of humanity when there is good in humanity too)
Yeah,he's actually guessed starred in Doctor who before being the doctor twice I think. lol. Supposedely there's a buried subplot in there.
This was also my first introduction to the guy so I probably was not prepared for his brand of cynicism going in. I did not mean to spoil anything which is why "some spoilers" was in the title. I guess Von trier is famous but I honestly never knew much about him. Not my cup of tea personally but I can still acknowledge the film-work and acting in his movies tend to be pretty good.
