That's very good point. To add to that, there's a large part of the Sonic fandom that has brewed many fan games that haven't help him in the long run. Hell, even if those games are good, they have only helped to divide the base more because there are people who can think they can do the series better than Sega. To be perefectly honest, if I was at Sega, I would legitmately snatch up those people to work on projects (not just Sonic) if what they have was more than just a muted palette swap Sonic almagamation running around in a slightly altered Sonic 2.
