Art,games,and GTFO, a fascinating new kick-starter!

Agree 100% on the contrast between Shannon's pitch and Sarkeesian's. One deals with a prevalent issue (online harassment) that seriously needs to be dealt with; the first video in the latter's series was full of groan-inducing hyperfeminist quaffle. I'm far more interested in seeing how GTFO pans out.

Games becoming useless from one generation to the next is probably the biggest downside to the rise of networked gaming on consoles. The PS2-era consoles will be the last ones that'll play nearly all the games released for it, as long as the hardware holds up.

Sony and The Vita: Where's The Hunger?

The Vita is doing WAY worse than the PSP did, though. And the market is most likely going to be much smaller; I'll be surprised if the two handhelds combined match the DS's sales.

If Sony isn't already too late, they don't have much time.

I don't know how Sony expects to get anyone interested in the Vita without more consistent support on their end. The system needed a full-court press on the first-party front a while ago.

I've been spending as much time with my PSP games as my Vita stuff ever since I got it. That's...not a good sign.

You aren't going to be missing out on much for the next few months, believe me. -_-

Final Fantasy 13 Versus?

I'm talking more in terms of recouping on their investment. If the game turns out to be nothing special, all the pent up hype will only be good for the first week or two of sales. It's going to have to be a blockbuster with real legs on the sales charts, or else it'll end up being a giant money pit--one that SE can't afford right now.

Why Capcom Doesn't Do Anything With Mega Man

And Capcom just today cut their profit projections for fiscal 2013 in half, and they're cancelling several more projects. So it's not like the strategy is working for them.

That, too, is endemic of the industry as a whole--bigger gambles leading to bigger risks, and bigger tumbles when things don't pan out. The whole thing is unsustainable.

Seriously. You'd have thought that they'd at least release Mega Man Universe, what with it basically being an enhanced 8-bit experience. That they didn't even think THAT was worth releasing is just proof positive they don't give a fuck about the brand outside of merchandise. Hell, Legends 3 wouldn't have needed a GTA-sized budget.

Final Fantasy 13 Versus?

At this point, it would have to have a bigger impact than FFVII to justify the wait. I think that's the real issue--even if it does eventually get released, can it really live up to 7+ years of hype?

Pretty much, yeah. Capcom isn't going to commit itself to Mega Man without him pushing for it at this point.
