What the fuck is your quest?

"Adventurer, the King of Fuh asks that you
walk to the jungle of the dead king. slay the dread monk, then learn to use the translucent skeletal hand that emits a faint hum.

only then can you raise an army to defeat the forces of hell."
Even random jibberish quests have more substance than 99% of what you'll find in video RPGs.

Darkest Dungeon looks great. Love everything I've seen of it. Going to wait for the final release so I don't burn out on it before it's complete.

Now time to move on to Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition!  Adventure mode and new Crusader class!

I've enjoyed the Diablo series, but I'm not a big fan of their mechanics. However, they are built to last. I wish more games had that kind of replay value and challenges built into them.

Old school.  You, I, my mother and Ridley Scott agree (even though the scripts force his hand some of the time).  Bodily funcitons almost never serve any narrative purpose.  I don't need any protracted scenes of people eating breakfast either.

I figure, for a lot of these venues, it's about money, politics, and culture, not product quality. A game has to represent the right things to get a real shot with these people. They exploit the hobby for their ideological ends.

Nice.  I live right near Chicago. You can't see shit out here. The night sky is usually a shade of brown from the cloud cover. Occasionally you can see the moon or a few stars. Sunset is as colorful as it gets, and you can't even see that consistently. I bet Iceland or the Antarctic are more stimulating.

As far as I'm concerned, an awards judge doesn't get the luxury of being a fan or not of particular genres.  The decision should be based on what something does per the standards of its niche, as well as general game design standards.  I expect more from people in that position than from people just casually opining about games. Maybe I shouldn't.

The menus are brilliant. The art direction in the game puts the rest of the industry to shame. Also notice how you're not fighting shadows to initiate combat.  Love the camera angles in the classroom and when he's walking past the crowd. So stylish.

It's 3D Zelda as if it was made in the 60s.

I think they would have had a stronger game if they didn't bother with the collection quests.  I think all the little bullshit quests in open world games these days are a weakness. That's development resources that could be used to improve the combat and make more intricate dungeons (I'm looking at you, Oblivion/Skryim).  The consensus, even among the most ardent fans of the game, is that the Hinterlands and all the MMO stuff is the weakest part.
