#gamergate Ben's story

Not to mention that this is not the first time that the lack of gaming media's credibility has been revealed. But people will continue to frequent the likes of IGN to fuel their console wars and validate their tastes.  Remember, games "journalism" is corrupt until they give a game the score people think it should have before they've played it themselves.

The Secret (and sexy) Life of Blake

If you play Dawn of Sorrow, which is superb, you're going to want to play Portrait of Ruin, And when you're done with that, you're going to want to play Order of Ecclesia. And when you're done with that, you're going to be sad because Castlevania is dead.

But you asked for 2, so I....no, I can't do it.  Get all 3 or GTFO!

You forgot to drop the mic after that fire you just delivered.

I have three courtesies that I give every person with no exceptions: I won't cheat you, I won't slander you, and I won't try to silence you. But I'll ask whatever the fuck questions I want, and use whatever the fuck terms I think are adequate to express my thoughts.

Nostalgic Vacation: 1982 - Xevious

Dat's some quality nostalgia there. Remember when games had weird but cool titles, like Xevious, Xexyz, GunNac, Gaiares?  Or just plain cool, like Lords of Thunder. Seemed to be common with shmups.

Well its Official Xcom is now my all time Favorite game!!

Nothing in the genre will ever top the original X-Com and Jagged Alliance 2, but I think people should suppor this game to prove the genre doesn't deserve to be a relic. And the Long War mod makes it as hardcore as you want it.

Nostalgic Vacation: 1981 - Wizardry, Floors 2-4

I'm currently playing Wiz V (SNES version). Talk about survival horror. I'm only on the third floor and I'm already encountering things at every turn that can cause a lot of trouble for my party, with status effects, AoE spells, poison, paralyzation.  A sharp increase in danger from floor 2.  I have map printouts from the PC version where I kind of eyeball my position in relation to various door placements and wall shapes., counting off squares between where I am and where I want to go.  I'm super cautious and avoid any deaths; it's just too expensive and risky to try and resurrect characters. Everything is expensive, pretty much.  And isn't resource scarcity one of the primary features of "survival" games?

Game has beautiful music, and some nice illustrations for monsters and NPCs. Just enough visual detail for interest, but still allowing you to use your imagination.

Diablo III first impressions

I call the color palette in Diablo 3 "Disney dark."  The lack of deep black shadows sets a different tone from the other two games.  You can have all the staked bodies and corpse piles you want, but if it's all rendered in primary and secondary colors, it loses some of the effect.  The early game is particularly Disney/animation-ish, while later it becomes more hellish and grandiose. Not as bleak and brimstone as Diablo 1, though.

Casey Ranks Mario Games

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm looking at the last couple of Rayman games too.

But I do like my powerups. Being able to fly in SMB3 and World was the coolest shit ever at the time.

Those N64 collectathons... More like faltformers, because that's what you did: run and jump around broad, flat surfaces. That's where my loathing comes from, and few 3D platformers have disabused me of the notion that three dimensions is just not very good for platforming.

Mario 64 is when the series jumped the shark, imo.  People were so impressed by the 3D, yet the mechanics and design of the game were awful to me. Galaxies are way better than 64, I just wouldn't have them in a top 10 list.   I like Ratchet and Clank as action games, but there is hardly any platforming most of the time.  Jak and Daxters have the same problems as those N64 games. I never played Crash(s) past the demos, but I've watched videos and it looks like they had some seriously intense platforming. Now those 3rd person Prince of Persia games definitely worked for me; they solved the problems of 3D platformers by not trying to take 2D and just give it another axis. They said "HItting tiny platforms is not going to be feasible in this perspective, so we'll find means by which precise interaction with surfaces better serve 3 dimensions." That's why a lot of it has to do with grabbing various types of poles, the rewind mechanic, traps, etc.
