Episode 44: Turnbuckle Talk

I know it was a niche episode. Hopefully you at least got a little bit of why we love wrestling so much, or are interested in giving one of the games a spin. I really do recommend WWE All Stars as a party game. Fun arcade style fighting.

That was indeed Kane at the end. That's one of my favorite skits in wrestling. Having him recite his entire convoluted backstory is amazing and surreal.

And congratulations! You seem to be the only person that listened to the whole show! Big ups to you!

So, I can't speak much for the GBA version, but Fire Pro Wrestling is one of the most well-respected video game wrestling series in Japan. It's a true sim that gives a level of customization that even modern wrestling games can't top. The reason your guys get tired is because you aren't breathing. That's right...it's a wrestling game where stamina and momentum are actually vital parts of the gameplay.

We sold quite a few import copies of the game for PSX and Dreamcast at my store. I was blown away by the create a wrestler and referee (?!!) options. I think those are probably the best versions of the game. I know it continued into more modern consoles and a PS2 version came out here, but the best ones stayed in Japan.

To clarify, I need to hang myself because that story sounds like a downer.

I don't remember why I didn't like Alundra. I just didn't. I dimly recall not liking the graphics, but I really enjoyed Dark Savior on the Saturn so I can't say that the platforming turned me off. I'd give it a go, but I just don't have it in me to put 40 hours into a game that never impressed me.

Well done, gents! I am very glad that I played this game for a few hours and put it down.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go hang myself. Or listen to The Cure. Or both.

What's happening everyone?

Whatever you do, don't make the mistake that I did with Kimarhi. He can kind of go into any area of the sphere grid from where he begins, and I thought I'd make him a black mage since magic is so useful. Bad idea. He was a terrible mage and a weak fighter. This time around I have him going through part of Tidus' section on the way to Auron.

Yeah, I don't think I really went there, but that's kind of what I was getting at with me saying how something like Endless Ocean with the Rift would be right up my alley. Beyond your examples, history is a subject that I have great interest in, but so few people teach it in an interesting way and distill all that human experience into cold dates and numbers. Being able to be on the field at Waterloo or as a bystander in Dealey Plaza back in November 1963 could be a powerful teaching lesson.

Man, that is a bummer! It's a no-brainer feature, so the problem must be on the Microsoft and Sony end. I know it was really difficult for Final Fantasy XI to make it to the 360 due to the strict gating of Xbox Live, and this is probably a similar situation.

Oh, well. I've been playing my barbarian every evening since we recorded. I guess I'll just play a new character on PS4!

HOLY SHITSNACKS! I know the man behind this game! I used to sell video games to him all the time. His full name is also Julian.

I am so backing this, and I haven't even seen the pitch yet. Thanks for this!

Finally finished my third game of the year.

I've been really slow with games lately. I think I've only finished Zelda and South Park. Schedule is so crazy these days, but I will be going through Metal Gear Ground Zeroes and Remember Me.

We are indeed playing FF X on the next Backloggers. In fact, I should probably slow down and let Angelo catch up...
