Blue and Pink

Posted on 09/06/2014 at 10:33 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Great story.  Spiderman Blue was one of the first books that I read when I was seriously reading comic books.  When I mean serious I only read trades, but still I read a lot over the course of a couple of years.  I was supremely disappointed when I found out that Loeb and Sale were not continueing their "color" series with Captain America:  White.  Daredevil:  Yellow and Hulk:  Gray may not be as good as Spiderman:  Blue, but they are definitely worth your time...

Speaking of Loeb and Sale, I really should dig all those books out and read them again...  especially their story about my favourite superhero, Superman:  For All Seasons.

Playing games is fun, and I think it is the way to go.

Casey Ranks Mario Games

the only chnage that I would make to this list is to move SMB 2 up to spot number 5 and move everything else down one.  i have always had a soft spot for SMB 2, that is all.

It actually wasn't until fairly recently that I had decided that Super Mario World was my favourite of them all.  I had not played it for years, possibly 10 years and then decided to download it on the Wii.  I picked it up and my foggy memories of playing through the game came flooding back... and of course I started to notice all of the little awesome things that Nintendo put into the game...

Fuck Nintendo.

Especially when Mario Kart 7 is less expensive than Mario Kart DS.  What hell is wrong with that picture?

PC is broken... But 3DS is awesome!

The SNES and earlier Mario games are superior to your Rayman Legumes and Banjo Kazooie.  I will say that Rayman is way better than the NEW Super Mario Bros series and Banjo Kazooie is way better than Super Mario 64.

Super Mario 3D Land is very much meh because it took the NEW Super Mario Bros design and made it 3D.  I want my 3D Marios to be collectathons like Super Mario 64, Jak and Daxter and Banjo Kazooie.

Fire Emblem is awesome and I was surprised that I actually finished it because I typically tire of that genre quickly...

What are the best games you played so far this year?

Let me see if I can remember what I have played through so far this year...  Killzone Mercenary, Thomas Was Alone, Strider, Super Mario 3D Land, inFamous:  Second Son, Wolfenstein:  The New Order, a bit of MGS: Ground Zeroes, Twilight Princess, Super Metroid, Velocity Ultra, Skyward Sword, Mega Man X...  I guess I just bounce all over the place seeing as there are only a handful of games that actually were released in 2014.

Wolfenstein is probably at the top of my list as far as games released in 2014.  I loved the blend of the old and new school FPS design.

Strider scratched that Metroid itch that I have on a yearly basis, but not enough to prevent me from replaying Super Metroid.

The few rounds of Mario Kart 8 were awesome and I hope to dive back into that game sometime this fall.

So To Recap....(Nintendo Direct 8/29/2014)

No, not because of triggers, but because of the better hardware.  I remember seeing that the specs have been bumped up, I do not know by how much, but there is a bump.  I am assuming that is why they are able to  port Xenoblade to the 3DS then and make it exclusive to the SUPER 3DS.(I do not like "NEW" and will forever refer to the NEW 3DS as the Super 3DS from this point on.)

1.  How do you know that Nintendo will not release a GoTY edition of Mario Kart 8?  I know that it is a Nintendo game and they keep their value long after they are released.(I remember seeing Twilight Princess at full price 4 years after it was released.)

2.  I remember a time when you had to pay full price for a new set of 16 courses whenever the next game was released.  So, not having to wait 5-6 years for a new collection of tracks is awesome news to me.

3.  I do not necessarily agree with your statement that this content should have been in the game to begin with.  I agree that Link and the Animal Crossing should have, but I highly doubt that any company would sit on content for 6-10 months before releasing it as DLC.  I would assume that they decided to work on this DLC after they saw how many units MK8 sold and decided that it would be worth their time to make additional content.  If a game sells like crap I cannot see DLC doing it any good.

4.  I wanted to clarify and say that in the end, I am not the biggest fan of DLC.  There are certain cases where I believe it to be acceptable and welcome.  This is one of them.  I say that because there has typically been a 5-6 year wait between console entries.  If the next one takes that long to come then I would be happy to have an extra set of tracks to keep things interesting.

5.  Remember that my opinions are clearly wrong.

How Did I Forget This!

$12 for 16 new tracks sounds like a pretty good deal to me.  If all you care about it is the ability to play as Link and the Animal Crossing character then I guess it is a waste of money.
