My favorite Mario games are Super Mario World, Mario 2 (USA), and Yoshi's Island. But I actually like Kirby games much more.
I played a game at PAX at the Adult Swim Games booth called Westerado: Double Barreled. They said it was like a 2-D 8-bit Red Dead Redemption. So if you liked that game, you should check it out.
No there is not a Metroid game on the 3DS, but I wish there was one.
