yeah it's definitely abused, but is ultimately unavoidable unless you use a 200 button controller.    I've certainly had my problems with games like this too.

I liked Bayonetta.  I remember my brother thought it was too silly though -- he likes more realism, and not over the top farfetched combat like her gun boots, etc.    But personally i found it fun.
