PS4 So Far

Posted on 11/19/2013 at 04:50 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I really hope Capcom doesn't blow Deep Down, which is the game any near future adoption of next gen console hinges around (unless they announce for PC, which I'm trying to maintain as my main platform for the future). I already have a problem with the camera.  It's that RE6, too close to the character, cuts off the left side of your FoV camera. It's already bad enough for ranged combat, I wonder how bad it's going to be for melee. Still, the art direction really appeal to me; lighting and particle effects look great, better than anything in current gen for sure. Throwing magic grenades looks fun.

I'm really surprised their hasn't been much talk about BF4 on PS4. Looks and plays great.  That game alone has me tempted. Buying a PS4 would be cheaper than upgrading to Windows 7 AND new hardware components, but I don't have the money for either right now.

Don’t Call it a “Comeback”-- I've Been Here for Months

Damn, Metal Gear 2 is the shit. Too bad it didn't work out for you.

Can't wait for more classic views on classic games.

Retro Game of the Week: Donkey Kong '94

Forgot to mention: I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't done something comparable to Pac Man Championship Edition with Donkey Kong. It would be a day one purchase for me. Imagine it with new stages, visual modes, trials, leaderboards, etc. Would be a GOTY contender.

Why it's good to avoid Next Gen console news on launch week...

But insecure fanboys obsessed with image hate when you call them toys. These goofs won't even play a Nintendo game because there are cartoon animals in them.

And what do sports celebrities have to do with anything? There are man-children in pro sports too.  I play console games, that should be enough justification for everyone :D

The incessant drama over game machine toys is tiring. And yes, I'm going to call them toys until the user base stops acting like children.

On the other hand, I'm enjoying the butthurt over these game toy boxes. Particularly humorous are people with primitive aesthetic sensibilities obsessing over visuals. It's like illiterates fighting over who the better writer is.

But hey, maybe it's all part of the plan. Keep people distracted with utterly in consequential b.s. as their birthright is frittered away by psychopaths. That's a talk for another time.

I bet this a nice palette cleanser of video game purity. No cutscenes, load screens, no tutorials, no padding, not too long, just the right amount of challenge and accessibility. I like that it's a different structure than the mainline Mario games, while still being unmistakably a Mario style platformer. They should do it more often.

BRUTAL DOOM!

With this mod, Doom once again is the best single-player FPS around. Feels great to play, fast and smooth; the weapons kick like a mule (not really, but they sound like they do), the challenge is intense, all the new little animations and fatalities are fun to behold.  It adds enough modern touches to make it feel fresh and show the current big boys how it's done.

This is a must-play.

Some Dragon Age: Inquisition footage in case y'all were wondering about it...

I have to admit, this looks kind of fun, and I haven't liked anything Bioware has put out since Hordes of the Underdark, the last RPG they made that wasn't 'idiot-proof.'

The art style looks to be the best of what they've done with DA so far, solving Origin's blandness and DA2's edginess.

Infinity Ward, Go Die.

Looks like they dropped the ball, big time. I still want to play Black Ops one of these days. Looked more interesting to me than the MW games. More interesting killstreak rewards and weaponry.

Strider Preview

What about the music? The music in Strider was like nothing I ever heard before. Evocative, atmoshpehric, and often alien. I always refer to it as a 'rock opera,' because of the sound and the way it changed with each set piece, the game being a series of back to back set pieces. Strider 2's music was good, but more 'common,' and thus not as memorable to me.
