Just by looking at them, I'm going to say they're dragons. Where they came from, I have no clue. BUT.... There is always the Everlasting Dragon. Perhaps the Dragons were asexual and able to conceive without a partner?

And those ships really interest me as well! I hope we get to explore them!

I think they're a great addition because there's no oceans or sail-able areas in the first Dark Souls. Seeing how DS2 is taking place in Lordran again, I'm excited to see how the ships came to be!

Interesting... I read quite a bit of bad reviews on this game, however your review and the general census of the comments seem to lean towards the positive side. Perhaps at your $8.99 pricing for Gamestop, maybe I'll just go pick it up sometime.
