I completely understand, and I did not mean any disrespect.  I appreciate all the work that indie developers are doing.  Unless I am mistaken, indie games are plenty of people's stepping stone into the big bad industry, but they are also the tired cynical developer's chance to be creative in a way that they have not been allowed since their first big budget hit.

You might be right about the return of the PSOne style RPG.  The 2D platformer has made a resurgence, but more importantly the late 90s style CRPG has made a resurgence as well with Wasteland 2, Torment, and Pillars of Eternity.  The next logical step would be the PSOne RPG.

So, am I.  That is one of the reason that I found myself picking up a Vita.  It is basically an indie machine, and most indies are 2D games.

I will say that installing dead space 2 on my 360 was the best decision of my life.  I saw more than a handful of points where the game loaded even with it installed and shuddered to think of how long the load times would have been if the game was reading off the disc.  This also made running from the regenerator thingy a lot easier.

Finished Witcher 2. In short, it was awesome!

Those alchemy perks can do amazing things.  I went with the alchemy branch for my playthrough and loved how much of a powerhouse Geralt was when he was poisoned.

As far as your comment about FF VIII.  I know that it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks.  Sometimes games hit us at just the right time.  They may not be as beloved or as good as others, but they came along at just the right time in ones life and left an impression.

Nintendo also has released my palate cleansers.  I tend to stick with SNES era games though like Super Metroid and ALttP.  I think that Nintendo works well to cleanse my palate because their games tend to focus on everything but story.  The focus on mechanics and the elusive "FUN" factor that other companies sometimes forget.

I just  started my Uber run in Wolfenstein.  It might be the first game that I 100% in years.

That sounds like it could be a little inappropriate.

I wish that I had been playing a bit more games, but I haven't had time.  I have been collecting up as many streetpasses as I can though.
