Objectively, not at all. Metaphysically, Souls would be a Zelda game. Honors go to who birthed the lineage, not the offspring. Souls is also Castlevania. It's also Wizardry. Most importantly, no one seems to have iterrated on AoL combat in the two dimensional.
Tank controls never bothered me, and the camera perspectives were worth it. Good players mastered them, scrubs complained for 25 years. Game was brilliant at the time. The remake is one of the GOATs
The battle system is still pretty good. For PC gamers, the SSI games were the gold standard for tactical RPG combat for a while.
Just finished Titanfall 2 campaign last week. I think it falls short of Dying Light's level design in terms of providing a parkour playground, but it was still lit, especially the later mech battles.
Loved this game, and I don't like many AAA games these days. Keep at it. Dying Light just keeps getting better. Get a shotgun as soon as they are available.
My favorite RPG on Genesis was Shadowrun. It had more character customization and freedom than any other 16 bit RPG I can think of, closer to CRPGs like Fallout. Also liked the SNES Shadowrun, which was a RPG/quasi-adventure game. Not as freeform as the Gen version, but great in its own way. There was also Might and Magic 2 on Genesis, which was a CRPG (port).
If you're samurai is getting beheaded, then you are past the point where low level characters should be. Go up a floor or two and level there. I like having Samurai in my party. Having a front liner with spells who can take hits better than your mages is useful for physical resistant enemies and extra crowd control.
I never played MW4, but from videos it does look better than MB3 to me. Combat and levels look more fleshed out.
Sinking Old Sanctuary and Prologue are two of my favorite CV tracks. Iron Blue Intentions bangs too.
