2010 Game of the Year Awards

With 2011 in full swing, the staff has reflected on the past year and highlighted the absolute best on each system.

WiiWare Awards

Winner - Fluidity

While Fluidity released just before the end of 2010, it stands head and shoulders above the full year’s competition. It's a quality title promoted and published by Nintendo that immediately attracts players with its interesting approach to exploration and great puzzle-based gameplay.

The original release has players taking control of a small collection of water. With the Wii Remote they tilt the pool of water around the screen in order to defeat enemies and solve puzzles so they may collect a variety of in-game objects. Throughout their play time players will occasionally earn new abilities to utilize. These will help them unlock new areas in each of the game’s four levels as well as tackle some of the later challenges.

Though a bit on the pricey side for a WiiWare title, 1200 Wii Points will net gamers an unprecedented amount of content, averaging around 20 hours of play time. With great value and gameplay, Fluidity is a real treat for any Wii owner.

Runner-Up - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

It may be surprising to some that a port of a GBA game is second in a 'Best of WiiWare' category. Instead of allowing this fact to tarnish your opinion of the WiiWare title selection available, let me impress upon you the quality of this title in its own right.

The title itself is a fantastic and unique gaming experience that allows players to solve crimes and defend the innocent. What makes this title PixlBit's runner-up is the wide range of consumers who finally have access to it. Finally those who overlooked all titles in the series, and especially those without a DS can experience the first title in the phenomenal Ace Attorney series. Even veterens of the series will surely enjoy experiencing the title in a brand new way, as they use the Wii Remote to scan for evidence and can even solve cases with friends and family without the restrictions of a tiny handheld screen.

Good effort and nice clean format. Needs one more page at the end. Maybe a short chat log about award debates, favorite game moments or the year in general.

Black Ops over Red Dead? John Marston would not take a liking to this.

Somewhere out there, there's a "_____ of the Year" article brewing. Something with zany categories and meaningless victories. It's just not in here. But it's in development.

Mind if I gave you a hand with that article, thatguy? ;)

(if school work permits it anyway)

Potentially yes, but probably not. It depends on something behind-the-scenes that I might push to move forward within the next week. If it goes through, you wouldn't want to help out with the article. If it doesn't get off the ground, though, then I'll see what I can do.

I haven't had the chance to say it, but a big thanks to the whole PixlBit staff in producing these awards. I sprung it on everyone that we were going to be doing them, and everyone voted and produced their write-ups ridiculously fast.

It took me a while to get everything together due to some stuff going on currently in my personal life, so sorry about that. I'll be making an announcement pretty soon letting everyone know exactly what was holding things up on my end.

Also, if anyone has any input for changes for next year's awards, feel free to let us know here or shoot us an email.

I know it is kinda late but I wanted to chime in on the awards.

First of all. Nice format with the color coding the systems at the top of the page. Maybe have a number one for each genre as well as the systems top 2 games like you have here. Like have the last page have Best RPG for all the systems. As well as all the other genres.

On to the awards. There were alot of good games that came out on the Wii this past year. Money was tight for me so I didn't get all the ones I wanted but I did get a few that were listed namely, Monster Hunter Tri, Endless Ocean: Blue World, Tatsunoko vs Capcom and No More Heroes:Desperate Struggle. Got the first two relatively close to the launch of the respective launches while I got the last two about a week ago. Overall very fun games in their own way.
