With 2011 in full swing, the staff has reflected on the past year and highlighted the absolute best on each system.
Xbox 360 Awards
Winner of PixlBit’s 360 Console Exclusive Game of the Year, Mass Effect 2 stunned fans with an explosive (pun intended) opening sequence and an incredibly immersive universe to play in. BioWare listened to the critics of Mass Effect and changed the game engine to be a much cleaner experience, focusing more on making it a shooter with RPG elements.
Once again, players strap on the boots of Commander Shepard and are told of a threat to the whole galaxy by the Illusive Man. To defend against the threat of another Reaper incursion, players embark on a quest to assemble a team. Beautiful visuals and amazing voice work contribute to the gameplay as well as refined shooting mechanics that give the game a smooth pacing with enough optional quests to allow players time to explore the world.
With great running gun battles, stressful boss fights, and intense cliff hangers, Mass Effect 2 achieves its admirable goal of leaving us all waiting for the final chapter in the trilogy.
Providing a mix of adventure, action, simulation, and RPG-styles of gameplay, Fable III is a jack of all trades. Players looking to be engulfed in a living, breathing world can easily lose themselves in the world of Albion. With thousands of unique NPCs to talk to, hundreds of quests to embark on, and many sidequests to partake in, players won’t soon run out of tasks to complete. While the end of the game is a bit suspect, the ride all the way up to it is a memorable one that players will undoubtedly fall in love with.
Halo: Reach, Crackdown 2, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell: Conviction
Potentially yes, but probably not. It depends on something behind-the-scenes that I might push to move forward within the next week. If it goes through, you wouldn't want to help out with the article. If it doesn't get off the ground, though, then I'll see what I can do.
I haven't had the chance to say it, but a big thanks to the whole PixlBit staff in producing these awards. I sprung it on everyone that we were going to be doing them, and everyone voted and produced their write-ups ridiculously fast.
It took me a while to get everything together due to some stuff going on currently in my personal life, so sorry about that. I'll be making an announcement pretty soon letting everyone know exactly what was holding things up on my end.
Also, if anyone has any input for changes for next year's awards, feel free to let us know here or shoot us an email.
I know it is kinda late but I wanted to chime in on the awards.
First of all. Nice format with the color coding the systems at the top of the page. Maybe have a number one for each genre as well as the systems top 2 games like you have here. Like have the last page have Best RPG for all the systems. As well as all the other genres.
On to the awards. There were alot of good games that came out on the Wii this past year. Money was tight for me so I didn't get all the ones I wanted but I did get a few that were listed namely, Monster Hunter Tri, Endless Ocean: Blue World, Tatsunoko vs Capcom and No More Heroes:Desperate Struggle. Got the first two relatively close to the launch of the respective launches while I got the last two about a week ago. Overall very fun games in their own way.
