With 2011 in full swing, the staff has reflected on the past year and highlighted the absolute best on each system.
XBLA Awards
The platformer found new roots this year with Team Meat’s superbly crafted, Super Meat Boy. Pulling heavily from old school gaming concepts, this title takes simple jumping and wall sliding mechanics and stretches them to the absolute limit. For the jaded gamer tired of an industry full of sequels, Super Meat Boy jumps into the fray with something that reminds us of where gaming came from, while still creating an experience that is completely refreshing and new. This title has everything from imaginative levels, to 8-bit inspired bonus stages, to unlockable characters with varying platforming mechanics. Add all of this to a dark humerous story starring an evil nemesis named Doctor Fetus, and you’ve got yourself one game you won’t forget for years to come.
After last year’s lackluster Brutal Legend, Double Fine has made a strong return to the market with Costume Quest. Unlike anything before it, the game is based around the long-standing Halloween tradition, trick-or-treating. Twins, Ren and Reynold, set out on Halloween to begin collecting candy, when one is kidnapped by an evil candy-snatching monster due to their candy corn outfit. This transforms the should-be-fun-filled night into a quest to save the kidnapped twin.
In order to complete the adventure players will need to team up with other local kids, collect costume parts, and dress up to gain access to a variety of different locales. These costumes aren't merely for show, as they transform players and grant them unique attack patterns in the RPG portion of the game, where players square off against the game’s monsters.
A quest of perfect length, intriguing and unique gameplay, and plenty of humor make for a new Halloween classic that anyone can enjoy.

Potentially yes, but probably not. It depends on something behind-the-scenes that I might push to move forward within the next week. If it goes through, you wouldn't want to help out with the article. If it doesn't get off the ground, though, then I'll see what I can do.
I haven't had the chance to say it, but a big thanks to the whole PixlBit staff in producing these awards. I sprung it on everyone that we were going to be doing them, and everyone voted and produced their write-ups ridiculously fast.
It took me a while to get everything together due to some stuff going on currently in my personal life, so sorry about that. I'll be making an announcement pretty soon letting everyone know exactly what was holding things up on my end.
Also, if anyone has any input for changes for next year's awards, feel free to let us know here or shoot us an email.
I know it is kinda late but I wanted to chime in on the awards.
First of all. Nice format with the color coding the systems at the top of the page. Maybe have a number one for each genre as well as the systems top 2 games like you have here. Like have the last page have Best RPG for all the systems. As well as all the other genres.
On to the awards. There were alot of good games that came out on the Wii this past year. Money was tight for me so I didn't get all the ones I wanted but I did get a few that were listed namely, Monster Hunter Tri, Endless Ocean: Blue World, Tatsunoko vs Capcom and No More Heroes:Desperate Struggle. Got the first two relatively close to the launch of the respective launches while I got the last two about a week ago. Overall very fun games in their own way.
