Asphalt: Injection Review

Twice the fun for thirty times the price.

Gameloft is infamous for borrowing heavily from other popular franchises. Asphalt: Injection is no exception; it steals from other arcade racers like Need For Speed and Burnout. While some familiarity can be a good thing, there is little good in Asphalt: Injection.

Ridge Racer (2012) Review

Where'd all the content go?

Upon booting Ridge Racer for the first time, I was a little confused and annoyed. After entering the "Gold Pass" included in the box I found myself waiting on a 550MB DLC download, which was subsequently followed by a day one patch. This however, was only a minor frustration; after all, the Gold Pass was unlocking three tracks and a few vehicles, so the benefits were apparent. It wasn’t until I actually got into the game that the true annoyance set in. As it turns out, the content contained within this Gold Pass was just as substantial as the content on the game's cartridge. Yes, that's right, out of the box Ridge Racer on the Vita offers a mere three tracks. Three. THREE!

Tour de 64: CyberTiger

Imagine my disappointment when I found out this is, in fact, not a game about virtual tiger maulings.

As one of the first games to feature famous golfer Tiger Woods, and the only Tiger Woods endorsed game on the Nintendo 64, CyberTiger is an odd mix of realistic-style golf with light fantasy elements. The main twist is in the form of powerups that can be used in a variety of ways. I don't know why EA didn't think that a traditional golf game was good enough, as there weren't many to choose from on the Nintendo 64.

Armored Core V Preview

Another retooling of the Armored Core franchise might have enough new ideas to draw in players who have resisted all of these years.

If you dream of controlling fully customized, walking machines of death around a battlefield, you are probably Japanese.  If you actually aren’t Japanese and this concept has some appeal to you, then you are part of the niche of Western gamers that Armored Core V is courting.  Even though mech piloting sounds like a lot of fun to almost everyone, most of us in the West just don’t get around to doing it in our spare time.  All indications are that we should clear our schedules to try out Armored Core V.

Kickstarting an Industry

What does fan based funding really mean for the industry?

I’d bet dollars to donuts that only a miniscule number of our readers had heard of Kickstarter a couple of months ago.  And those that had heard of the crowdsourcing fundraising site could not have possibly known that it would become an important part of an evolving video game industry; that it would throw a wrench into the workings of how things have “always been done” and give the community – the fans – a voice that is not only heard, but heeded as well.

Tell Me About Your Emotional Connection to Mass Effect

Nick's looking for your answers.

The Shepard Trilogy of Mass Effect has finally come to an end, which has evoked some strong feelings from fans. There's outrage over the ending and not just the ending, but its impact on the series as a whole. I have no feelings on the topic as I have not even played a single title in the series, and truthfully, I have very little ambition to ever do so. Sure, I gave Mass Effect a shot and I actually own both the first and second title, but as someone who's not much a fan of sci-fi, the story and characters hold little intrigue for me. But this is not about me; this is about you, the fans of the series.

Mass Effect 3 Review

So, it has come to this.

Five years ago BioWare released Mass Effect to the world. The first game in an epic RPG trilogy with the ambitious goal of having your character’s actions and accompanying consequences carry over from game to game;  creating an ever more complex and living world quite literally shaped by the player. As a result, Mass Effect 3 is forced to undergo scrutiny for not only how it handles as a standalone game, but as a conclusion to BioWare’s half-decade efforts as well.

NeoGeo X Handheld Confirmed For Later This Year

How much will you pay for a 90s arcade cabinet in your hands?

A little over a month ago, we reported that an SNK NeoGeo portable handheld system was being produced, and today more details have been released on the retro-inspired product. Reports are coming in that Blaze, a "retro console and accessory specialist," has made a deal with SNK Playmore and distributor Tommo to bring the handheld console to store shelves.

Dungeon Hunter: Alliance Review

Unless you have four friends to play this locally with, be prepared for a slow and tedious journey.

I wouldn’t say that Dungeon Hunter: Alliance is the worst dungeon crawler I’ve ever played, but it’s not very good either. From the get-go it creates the illusion that it’s going to be a great title within the genre, but it falls apart in execution.
