Always Online Games and the Subject of Reviews

An editor-in-chief's conundrum thanks to Sim City's rampant issues.

Reviewing games isn’t the easiest thing in the world to do. Boiling down exactly how you feel about an experience while providing an objective assessment of the game’s components is a delicate balancing act. With the introduction of always-online games, specifically Sim City, this fragile process has been put to the test. As editor-in-chief of this website, I have to consider how this new component of gaming is factored into our review policies and make a call about how the game’s score is affected.

Upcoming Site Outage - March 2, 2013

Due to the move, the site will go down for just a few short hours tomorrow morning.

Howdy everyone! To start, I just wanted to say a quick sorry for my absence over the past couple days. It's been quite hectic in the DiMola household as we are in the process of making a cross country move from Florida to New York. Believe it or not, packing and moving a whole house with two small children is not the easiest thing in the world to do. Thankfully though, this part of our voyage is now complete. The next step, while the easiest for my family, is going to cause a small hiccup for you folks.

A Letter From the Director

Only with your help can we make PixlBit great.

I am humbled. It’s impossible to feel any other way at this particular moment in time. Well, maybe just a wee bit overwhelmed. I feel that too. After three and a half years of running the site, we’ve never seen a response quite like this. I too mourn the loss of 1up, but I couldn’t possibly feel more proud and honored to have all of you refugees claim this site as your new home on the Internet.

Johnny Impossible Review

UFO gives us more of what it does best.

The 3DS eShop can be a dangerous place. Littered with just as much shovelware as gems, it can be tough to know what you're getting into after a brief skimming of the media associated with a given title. In the case of Johnny Impossible, the association with publisher UFO should already be enough to make your spidey-sense tingle, but if you’re still on the fence given its Metroidvania gameplay, let me assure you, it’s no diamond in the rough.

Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward Review

Don't miss this thrilling successor to 2010's cult classic, 999.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who spent countless hours in the elementary school library reading each and every Choose Your Own Adventure book available, exploring each and every deviating path the story offered. Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward is not unlike these books of our youth; however, it offers an added puzzle-solving experience that differentiates it from its paperback brethren. If you’ve any love for these types of experiences, there’s no question that Virtue’s Last Reward will have you on its hook for well over 30 hours.
