Golden Oldies: Mario Bros

Yeah I remember Showbiz Pizza.  There's an interesting video on the history of Chuck E. Cheese that shows how both places were related.  It all depended on the region you were in.  But what's weird is that the region I was in had both Chuck E. Cheese and Showbiz!

Yeah thinking about it, the DS didn't seem quite as gimmicky as the Wii, somehow.  Thanks for listening!

Thanks for listening.  According to Jeff, Episode 4 should be up later this morning!

I think part of the reason why the podcast doesn't sound as thrown together is because I write an outline before we record, and then we go over the outline before we record as well, wriing down things we want to say that we may have forgot.  Plus both Jeff and I have had radio and phone speaking experience, so that helps.

I do have a lot of brothers, but did you know it wasn't always that way?  When I was a kid, I was an only child through most of my childhood.  When my parents got divorced and married other people, they then started having kids.  Five boys on my dad's side and one boy on my mom's side.  And most of this didn't start to happen until I was about to graduate high school!  So yeah, I'm significantly older than the rest of them if it sounds that way in the podcast.  Our lifestyles as kids were totally different, too.  I went to public school, whereas the boys on my dad's side were home schooled, for instance.

OK, go on, try to guess my favorite composers.

I used to go to Six Flags Over Texas a lot.  Not usually by choice, as I'm not a big fan of those types of roller coasters.  I'm kind of tired of Six Flags actually, so I haven't been there in many years.

Did you know that a long time ago, before the kids area in Six Flags Over Texas was Looney Tunes Land, for a while it was Pac-Man Land?  It's true!  I went there when I was a little kid.

August 2021 Recap

I reviewed Pretty Princess Party.

I'm really enjoying The Great Ace Attorney.  I'm already on chapter 5.

I also really liked New Pokemon Snap.  It'll be a candidate for my Game of the Year.

I got the Picross S game that has SEGA characters in it.  I'm enjoying it so far.

Thanks for listening and commenting.  Really means a lot to me.

I'm really hoping we'll have the next podcast up by the end of Labor Day weekend.  Jeff edits it, and he's a schoolteacher so right now he's really busy with the start of school.  But I've been pushing and encouraging him to get it done this weekend since there's an extra day for him in there.

Episode 4 is actually with me and another one of my brothers, Ben, as we talk about our favorite video game music composers.  Then after that, I hope to record Episode 5 with my brother Nathan, as we plan to talk about our favorite Disney characters and rides at the theme parks.

Golden Oldies: Mario Bros

I liked the Mario Bros. style mini-game in Super Mario Bros. 3.  Back then, it wasn't quite as commonplace to see a nod to a classic arcade game like that, so I thought that was cool.  I also learned through this mode that you can be a real jerk in Mario Bros. if you want to!

I wonder how many kids back then knew that the song in the Mario Bros. commercial is just the tune to "Car 54, Where Are You?"

One time as a kid we went to Chuck E. Cheese and I was playing Mario Bros. when I felt someone come up beside me and try to play the game with me.  I didn't look over at first, but after they kept bumping into me and fumbling with putting the quarter in the slot, I was like, "What the heck?"  And when I looked over, it was the guy in the Chuck E. Cheese costume trying to play!

I named the original Psychonauts my Game of the Year back in 2005, and seeing how much story you need to know for the sequel, I would say you should make time to play the first one.  HOWEVER, I do understand the difficulty of finding time to play ALL the games out there.  I'd love to play Monster Hunter Stories 2, but there's no way that's going to happen.

I don't think I will write a blog about Psychonauts 2.  Lest I spoil it for anyone.

I played Limbo a long time ago on Xbox 360 and I don't think I got very far either.

I'm playing a lot of Psychonauts 2 as well.  How far are you in the game?

I went to Dave & Busters a few days ago and thought of you because I saw a Minecraft Dungeons arcade game!  I didn't play it, but maybe I will next time I go back.  I did play some other new games, though, like a Hungry, Hungry Hippos machine that was so huge you had to sit on the back of the hippo to play it!  I also played a new Pong game where the paddles and balls were actually physical pieces and were moved around by magnets I reckon.  Also played Centipede Chaos, which I had been wanting to play for a while.  That one has mushroom stools you sit on to play!  And a new Rampage game based on the movie.
