Games Are Too Bloody Long!

Posted on 08/27/2014 at 12:17 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I definitely agree that games tend to be too long. I think the mindset that games need to be long is largely a carryover from when most gamers were kids and could afford only one or two games for months at a time. Now the tables have turned. We have disposable incomes but no time. A couple of games that I played recently, Dead Space and Catherine, were both early- to mid-teens in number of hours and even that felt like they were stretching a hair too long. Sometimes I look at the huge games in my backlog, like Fallout: New Vegas or Xenoblade Chronicles, and the thought of starting them is so daunting. It will take me months to get through them. If the majority of games could just be less than 10 hours, that'd be perfect.

Hmm, these sound like musical ruts lol

I've been listening to VGMpire, a game music podcast, and there are four episodes covering Castlevania. I've listened to three of them so far and now I want to play one of those games soooo bad.

Yes, more Kirby for sure! The Dream Collection on the Wii is a great place to start.

China had the '70s too! Well, I imagine it was a little different...

Retro Game of the Week: Extreme-G

Posted on 08/25/2014 at 10:15 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I remember this game blew my mind when it came out because it was so fast. Extreme-G III on the GameCube was even better. I loved breaking the sound barrier in that game. Then F-Zero GX made Extreme-G seem like old hat lol.

Man, I want a new F-Zero for the Wii U.

My Weekend in games and books

Posted on 08/25/2014 at 10:03 PM | Filed Under Blogs

My weekend was brief. I got called in for overtime yesterday, so yay for money but it left me little time for other things. We watched the new Dr. Who, though, and I'm fairly optimistic. I think Capaldi will grow into the role just fine. I also watched the movie version of Watchmen, finally, and have many thoughts on it. Gonna write a blog if I can find the time and energy lol.

I've always been really intrigued by Under the Dome. Someone at work told me the show was really good but I assume they didn't read the book too. Sooner or later I'll find it at Good will for a buck Smile

That was a bizarre little problem but I'm glad it's fixed. Good work!

Wow, that's a monstrously huge question! Lemme throw out a few less known or unusual ones: Dungeon Siege III, Beyond: Two Souls, Dead Space: Extraction, Double Dragon Neon, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Cloudberry Kingdom, Ninendo Land. Okay, some of those are well known but they're all very fun!

Comics 'n' Life 'n' Such

Posted on 08/23/2014 at 06:01 PM | Filed Under Blogs

If you don't feel like reading the comics, then don't. No point in turning it into work lol. It's a little odd getting into them at first if you aren't used to the medium. It's just a different way of telling stories.

If the mako levels bugged you in ME1, then you should definitely try ME2. They axed the mako levels almost entirely.
