I can't comment on the size and i'm not the best on games since I have very few games on my backlog, but trust me that the 3DS is a very good console, and it's great for those who missed the DS (like me). As for games, if you want a smooth start, on the DS start with New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart DS and any of the DS Pokemon games, while on the 3DS, Super Mario 3D Land should be good enough.
Gotta say, this was a very great blog Sonic. It felt emotional and your comparasions to the end of the summer and Chrono Trigger were pretty meaningfull.
I had played the game on a emulator and I concur with everyone that the game is excellent. Sadly, I haven't played the game in a long time and i'm deciding wheter I should get the Virtual Console version or the DS remake.

I think if you wanted to start with the new gen of Pokemon, Diamond/Pearl or Platinum would have been better choices, and then go to Black/White. Or alternatively, go to HeartGold/SoulSilver after D/P and P, since it covers the second gen (Gold/Silver and Crystal) and the first gen (aka: Red/Blue). Then again, i'm also catching up on the Pokemon games and i'm only so far on Diamond, so better go to Greenman and/or Captain N for anything Pokemon or check the almigthy Bulbapedia.
As far starters, I don't mind the B/W starters, but in design, I liked better the ones of Gen 1, Gen 3 and Gen 4.
I found the news unexpected, but hey, as long as they don't discontinue the 3DS, i'm fine. It seems like you're currently having a cynical attidute towards Nintendo lately. Not saying it's a bad thing. Just an observation.
Really good post. If you haven't played Okami, you should. It is that great..... even though i'm still on the first dungeon and I haven't continued the game since May.

If you're talking about remakes, I can see why it can be bothersome, but I think as long as there's also new stuff or continuations of games that have been released years ago (like Pikmin 3 recently), i'm fine with it, and it also brings me to my point that some of the old games, while avaiable, can either be expesive (together with the old consoles) or it's simply because people don't want to get the old consoles, so a remake can make them experience an old game (albeit, retooled for modern standards).
If you're talking about re-releases, go to my console and game argument above. Not everyone can pay for an old console, so I think re-releases are fine.
I remember playing the original DuckTales in an NES emulator, but I don't remember much about it. Remastered looks pretty cool.
