I still don't enjoy open worlds, I might be doomed.

A sandbox is defined by the sand and the tools in it, not the box. That's the mistake people make. You can have sandbox design in a single room or in a linear game (Metal Gear games after MGS1, for instance, where you can mess with the guard AI, physics, try different tricks on the bosses, etc).

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Review

Triggered when I read that you can mark enemies during stealth. How about using sound cues, like Thief did back in 1998. Or having decent, organic tools for viewing enemies from safety.  Must everythign become increasingly banal, safe, and heavy handed in the AAA market?

Anyway, game looks good otherwise. I thought 1-3 had a lot of room for improvement

I never thought I'd do this

Your avarice is noted. They'll have your house by the time this is all done.

The One Where Everyone Hates Me and No One Wants To Dance

Never played Harvest Moon or any similar games. Played this game. Told my self "just one more day, then I'll quit." 10 in game days later and I was still telling myself that. 10/10

OST Spotlight--Bahamut Lagoon

Posted on 03/11/2016 at 06:53 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I remember hearing about this game back in the 16 bit days. I was into anime andthe import scene so I heard of most of these games, like Romancing SaGa, Live A Live, Blue Seed, the Magic Knight Rayearth rpg, Yu Yu Hakusho fighting game.  This one probably caught my eye because of the name. Japanese games had such strange and intriguing titles. What the hell is a bahamut lagoon?

And I always have a laugh when I read about some Japanese developer or weaboo think their games are too hard or complex for westerners. Our RPG and tactical games on computers were way more complicated and punishing than theirs, and especially more so than Bahamut Lagoon, which is really simple. On one hand, Japan was never that familiar with computer gaming, so naturally they wouldn't really know what was out there. But on the other hand, why aren't developers, freaking professionals, more aware of the industry they work in?

Twilight Princess is my favorite 3D LoZ. You can have mounted battles and ride a giant boar. Ocarina of TIme ain't got nothing on that. Bosses fights are cool as hellt, music is great, one of the best Gannon fights in the series and the most 'epic' as the kids say.  Come to think of it, the different phases of the Gannon fight make me think of Souls series bosses.  Anyway, there has been nothing like it since. Darksiders was a damn good try, but TP 's scale felt much larger and the world and imagery were more relatable than Darksiders' extremely stylized and over the top aeshtetic.

Why can't we have our cake and eat it too.

Been gaming since the 80s. I am used to and expect a complete game for my money.  How the hell can we have complete HItman games 10 years ago but today we have to buy it in pieces. Are these companies going broke?  The hell out of here with that shit.

Monster Hunter Generations

Is this like a compiliation of Monster Hunter games? Looked like there was some Freedom Unite and 3 HD elements in there (the only MHs I've played).

NES collectors would not think you are nuts. These games have stood the test of time, and there is no replacement for playing them on dedicated hardware. Emulators are convenient and free, but just not the same.

RETROspective: TMNT Nostalgia

Posted on 02/27/2016 at 02:39 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Liked the NES arcade game better than the actual arcade games.  What was impressive on a home console wasn't as impressive amongst the competition at the arcade, which included the cooler Final Fight and the novel Golden Axe. Plus, the NES version wasn't built around credit feeding and how that affects the overall design, which is also a factor in why I believe the NES version of Double Dragon 2 to be more refined than the arcade version.Probably also why the SNES Turtles in Time feels better than the arcade one.  For me, a fan of 2D animation, the arcade games are memorable for how they brought the characters faithfully to life in an interactive fashion, same goes for the X-Men arcade game, and more recently. Transformers: Devastation. I remember how cool it was as a kid to be fighting Bebop and Rocksteady, and Baxter Stockman, looking like they popped right out of the cartoon.  I'm praying for a (faithful to the original shows and comics) Masters of the Universe or Thundercats game with hand drawn looking graphics.

I don't think we've had that ultimate TMNT game yet, but I think Platinum's contribution will be significant. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
