Dad's van is good now, meaning I get my car back, and after a two hour Orientation call to my new freelance job today, I get to go on a mini-vacation to my alma mater, starting tomorrow.

So Monday, the Boston Marathon was interrupted with bombings, now in West, Texas, a city only about an hour southeast of where I live (again, city, not the region, "West Texas") a fertilizer plant has exploded.

they're making a sequel to A Link to the Past on 3DS. At least I think that's what the guy on my facebook feed meant when he said "ALttP sequel."

If you are avoiding social media/news outlets today, and have family in Boston now, that is the most updated news so far. Cellphone service has been shut down, but Kevin Smith's twitter has been relaying ways of keeping in touch.

If you don't know, today, April 15, is Jackie Robinson Day in Major League baseball, where several ballparks ask all uniformed players to wear the number 42 in honor of the first black baseball player in the modern "era" of Major League Baseball (italic emphasis for those of you that like technicalities), Jackie Robinson, who was started as a first baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947.

These are not at all relevant to Rangergirl's excellent Folk Friday #5 songs today, which are all "work songs" (don't worry, they're fun to listen to, just used for working people to keep rythm, etc.), but listening to those did somehow remind me of a few acoustic songs by heavy bands that I really like, and that work, despite seeming to be completely outside the style the bands typically play in, though I mean that in the public sense, as even most heavy bands write their music acoustically before plugging in the amplifiers to record the album versions.

So some of you may remember a week or so ago I had fired up the N64 and found that Donkey Kong 64 and 1080 Snowboarding would glitch after a few minutes of playing. I mentioned that I had been fiddling with the A/V cables (now that I remember red goes in the middle, there should be a lot less of that in the future) and turning the console on/off several times trying to get it to work, as well as the fact for some reason I always seem to have to turn the DVD player on then off to get full image and sound... I actually don't think that's entirely true, and next time without any A/V cable troubleshooting, I don't think that'll be the case. I need to work on getting my color-coded wires down before I fail to diffuse a bomb and kill myself. After that stunt I pulled on my neighbors with the HAL 3000 two blogs ago, It's only a matter of time, really.
