Mind in '86

I'm surprised Dragon Warrior was hard to find.  It's pretty common considering that Nintendo was giving them away at one point to encourage people to subscribe to Nintendo Power.

Blog #24

I'm playing a lot of Splatoon and reviewing a Portal pinball game and dinking around with an indie 360 Dodgeball game made by the same folks who did the NES Super Dodge Ball.  On the 3DS I'm playing mostly the Mario Puzzle & Dragons game.  Check out my blog to see what other games I've been reviewing lately.

May 2015 Recap

I have Monster Tale but never played it.  I've still playing Curtain Call on my 3DS.  There are so many songs!  The original Theatrhythm game was my Game of the Year for 2012.

Dev Blog #4: Logo! - Updated!

Oh neat.  I always like to put a logo title like that in my reviews.

Just a couple of ideas to bounce around to you: what if you made the pen look more like a stylus pen (at least on the Wii U)?  Or maybe put an exclamation point at the end of 'cross' to make it sound more exciting!

It's fine the way it is, though.  I was just thinking of other ideas.

Nearly the Same Day as Yesterday

The wizards are really hard!  But if you do not have your sword pointed out, you can block their spells in front with your shield.  Even then, they're still really hard to avoid.  This game is brutal.

Nearly the Same Day as Yesterday

The way the treasure chests appear in Druaga is not random.  You have to do certain things to make them appear.  For instance, you may have to kill 3 green slimes in one stage, or kill 3 knights, etc.  Some of the treasures you'll NEED later on, like the speed boots.  It's a really obtuse game, but surprisingly popular in Japan for some reason.

Grobda is really more of a spinoff, not a sequel, to Xevious.  There are these tanks in Xevious that just sit on the ground waiting for you to shoot them, and those are the Grobda tanks.  Xevious is another surpristingly popular game in Japan, they even have novels with the Xevious backstory!

Japan's Nintendo Direct.....:(

Well the things I was interested in was the Dr. Mario collection, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Academy, and the new Chibi Roboo 2-D platformer (complete with Chibi Robo amiibo!  EEEEE!!!).  I also liked the new info on Yoshi's Woolly World.  That Monster Hunter kitty game looks cute, too.  I think that's the only way you'll get me to play a Monster Hunter game.  I guess it's pretty sad that I'm a full grown man that is only interested in cute games.

Retro Game of the Week: Kid Dracula

Posted on 05/30/2015 at 11:05 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Kid Dracula is more closely related to Castlevania than you think!  It's basically the Parodius of the Castlevania series.  The first level song is a cute remix of the stage one theme from Castlevania 3, for instance.  And Kid Dracula himself is 'supposed' to be Alucard as a boy.

The Game Boy game is actually a sequel to the Kid Dracula game on Famicom.  It's a shame they never brought it to the NES, but they'd have to do some editing (check out the first level boss).  I guess it was just easier to edit the GB game?

I love how you can play as Kid Dracula in some of the Parodius games.  He also makes cameos in other Konami titles like the DS Track & Field game.  I wish Kid Dracula could make a comeback, but with the way things are at Konami right now, that seems very unlikely.

Yeah a lot of them are good and can make their videos look easy to do, but I bet it's a lot harder than we think!

Retro-ish Reviews

Oh I really liked the games on the PSOne Konami Collection. Circus Charlie, Time PIlot, Kicker, Gyruss.  Lots of good stuff!  I have the Gradius Collection on PSP and I imported the Parodius, Twinbee, and Salamander collections, too.  They're all good.  Konami really did support the Wii a lot.  I downloaded their Gradius Rebirth game.
