Luke gives us his thoughts on the best titles that were released in 2009 on all platforms.

Wii

Game of the Year: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

New Super Mario Bros Wii is the first 2D Mario game on home consoles since the SNES. The game feels like the 2D Mario games found on the NES and SNES and the multiplayer component is sublime. The game’s solid challenge level and the return of the Koopa Kids were pleasant surprises. All in all, the game is pure fun especially with a group of friends.

Runner-Up: Muramasa: The Demon Blade

VanillaWare's latest 2D action title is magnificent. With beautiful graphics, a moving music score inspired by traditional Japanese music along with fluid and engaging combat mechanics, this title is a must have for fans of 2D action titles.

Honorable Mentions:

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Dead Space Extraction, Rabbids Go Home, Need for Speed: Nitro, A Boy and His Blob, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Little King's Story, Boom Blocks: Bash Party, Punch-Out!!, Rune Factory: Frontier, House of the Dead: Overkill, MadWorld, Wii Sports Resort, Klonoa, Tenchu: Shadow Assassins, The Beatles: Rock Band, ExciteBots: Trick Racing
