As a 1up survivor, I too was looking for a new place to call home while frantically trying to save my blogs. I'm just glad I was able to call this place my new internet home. Alot of the people I knew from 1up move here so I was glad I was able to see some familiar faces, but I met some new ones as well. I'll write something about this hopefully today so I'll keep this short. But congrats Pixlbit and congrats everyone!

Justin Matkowski Celebrates Five Years of PixlBit
Like many others, I found Pixlbit in the wake of 1UPs demise. I didn't know what to expect, but what I found was a community of incredibly diverse and passionate gamers who are respectful to each other in a way that is rare. I knew right away that I wanted to be a bigger part of the site, which led to me asking Nick if I could offer my art director services to the site. I've even had the pleasure of doing a couple podcasts with the PixlBit crew, and I'm look forward to doing more of those in particular!
What PixlBit represents to me the most is everyone's passion for the medium. Like all forms of media, gaming journalism has a tendency of falling into the black hole of being more about the politics of journalism than what the actual subject matter is. Thankfully; this has never been the case with Pixlbit. Whether I'm seeking advice from Yargz when a Souls game is kicking my ass, reading Jamie’s awesome retro game reviews, or sitting in on a podcast, I am constantly reminded of the honesty and purity of what brings us all together – the love of an artistic medium that has changed all of our lives and is a huge part of who we are as individuals.
To everyone who is a part of PixlBit in any fashion, whether you are a community member or a staffer, thank you for making PixlBit the awesome site that it is, and I can't wait to see and be a part of how it evolves and grows in the future!
