Cave Story 3D Review

Falling somewhere between Mega Man and Metroid, this indie 2D adventure must be something to behold, right?

I'm ashamed to admit it, but until now, I've never played Cave Story. Not for free on the PC, nor for the low price of admission on the Wii or the DSi. It's always interested me, but I just never got around to playing it. Cave Story 3D has changed that for me, but in retrospect, I don't feel as if I was missing all that much. Unquestionably, Cave Story is a solid game and that's made all the more impressive by the fact that a single man, Daisuke Amaya, created the game himself. While impressive, this doesn't make up for the fact that the game is a bit rough around the edges.

Skyrim Getting a Full Suite of Modding Tools

Bethesda is also looking into those patch problems.

What would a major RPG release from Bethesda be without a few glitches? Though Skyrim has released to rave reviews across the board, the game has not been without its problems. A patch went out earlier this week for PC and consoles, but it looks like the patch not only hasn’t fixed the framerate problems in the PS3 version, but now there’re a ton of new problems.

Also, multiplayer coming to the Dragon Age franchise?

It seems that EA needs to get their employees to quiet down, as we have had a lot of rumors leaking out from the company about tons of upcoming projects. You can add a couple more interesting tidbits to these rumors, as now we’re hearing about a new Army of Two game, and multiplayer coming to Dragon Age.

Square Enix Says to Expect More Deus Ex

The popular cyberpunk RPG is just one of many core franchises for the company.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution came out earlier this year to glowing reviews and strong sales, selling over 2 million units worldwide in its first month. It’s no wonder, then, that Deus Ex has positioned itself as one of Square Enix’s major franchises for the future. In a financial conference call, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada stated that Deus Ex has become a core intellectual property for the company, and that the franchise will see another release.

3DS Surpasses the First Year Sales of the DS

Nintendo's divisive new handheld only needed 8 months to beat the DS.

The 3DS roller coaster continues today. The system, which had so much positive buzz coming out of E3 2010, released to a collective “meh” from the industry at large, due to a tepid launch lineup and a general waning of interest in 3D. In a shocking move, Nintendo slashed the price of the 3DS down to 169.99 from its original price point of 249.99, and Nintendo President of Japan Satoru Iwata took a 50% pay cut from the debacle. However, it seems to have worked, because we’ve just learned that the 3DS has surpassed the first year sales of the DS, and in only 8 months.

The Kore Gang: Outvasion from Inner Earth Review

Kids are great when there is field work to be done or raw materials to mine, so why waste their energy on video game busy work?

Its manual claims to be a “fantastic action jump 'n' run game” and there is certainly a lot of jumping. The three playable characters, Pixie, Madboy, and a dog, Rex, can be switched to at the press of the C button. Each has specialized, if minimally effective moves that are required to get through levels which do contain considerable amounts of platforming. But it can be more honestly described as a “plat-borer” because The Kore Gang's 30 levels are a near-nonstop string of menial and utterly pointless fetch quests that will bore players of all ages.
